Taiwan Chinese Labels for Imported Fruit Products: A Buyer Checklist

Coordinate Chinese labels for fruit products imported into Taiwan with a practical review of product identity, ingredients, responsible parties and artwork.

Chinese labels for fruit products imported into Taiwan should be reviewed before artwork is printed or a commercial pack is assembled. A translation alone does not establish that the label matches the product category or contains the required information. The importer, manufacturer and artwork team need one approved product description.

Classify the product before designing the label

Identify whether the offer is fresh whole fruit, a prepacked processed food, a bulk ingredient or another form. Ask the responsible importer which requirements apply to the actual package and sales arrangement.

Do not copy a retail label onto an industrial ingredient without review, or assume that a fresh-product practice covers a formulated dessert. The correct treatment depends on the food and how it is supplied and sold.

Build the label from verified product data

Collect the product name, ingredient statement, net content, responsible business details, origin information, relevant dates and storage instructions as applicable. Any nutrition, allergen or other required fields should be determined for the specific product by the responsible reviewer.

Taiwan FDA’s English food-labeling handbook describes Chinese-label provisions and category-specific details. Use the applicable current provisions rather than treating a generic checklist as an exhaustive legal answer.

Make the Chinese name match the food

A product name should describe what is actually inside the package. Taiwan FDA publishes product-name labeling requirements. Have the importer review the name in context with the ingredients and product form.

A familiar marketing name may be ambiguous when it omits whether the fruit is dried, frozen, sweetened or part of a mixture. Resolve that ambiguity before labels and commercial documents use different descriptions of the same goods.

Control translation and artwork versions

Nominate one person to consolidate corrections. Keep a dated approved artwork file and a record of the product specification it represents. If an ingredient, manufacturer, origin or pack size changes, review the affected label fields again.

Inspect a printed or production-equivalent sample for legibility and placement. Check the full package, including seams, folds and areas covered by another label. A correct text file is not proof that the final applied label remains readable.

Confirm timing and responsibility for application

Ask the importer where and when the approved label will be applied under the applicable rules. TFDA explains certain situations involving processing or repacking in its imported-food inspection guidance. Do not assume that these situations create a general permission to leave every commercial package unlabeled at entry.

Keep label approval separate from the other shipment checks. Plant quarantine, residue compliance and customs classification can still require review even when the artwork is correct.

Frequently asked questions

Can an English label replace the Chinese review?

No general substitution should be assumed. Have the importer confirm the applicable Chinese-label requirements and any category-specific treatment for the product.

What is the final artwork check before dispatch?

Confirm the approved version, product and pack size, lot and date fields, printed legibility and consistency with the shipment documents. Retain a photograph or production sample of the applied label for the order file.
