Musang King A and B Grades: Ask for the Written Definition
Compare Musang King grade offers using a named specification and measurable attributes rather than a letter alone.
An A-grade Musang King offer is difficult to compare with another supplier’s A grade if the letters refer to different rules. A buyer needs the specification behind the label: product form, attributes, tolerances and inspection method. The letter should summarise an agreement, not replace it.
Identify the grading basis
Ask whether the seller follows a named published standard or a private commercial specification. If a standard is cited, request its title, version and applicable scope. FAMA publishes a Musang King D197 specification for fresh fruit; that does not make every private A/B label equivalent or extend a fresh-fruit grade automatically to frozen pulp.
Separate the attributes that matter
For whole fruit, define the agreed weight band, shape and external condition along with the internal evaluation. For arils or pulp, identify integrity, seed status, texture and net content where relevant. Keep food-safety requirements outside a negotiable cosmetic score. A lower appearance grade must not be described as permission to supply unsuitable food.
Compare two offers line by line
Create a short comparison showing where the two definitions match, differ or remain unspecified. A lower price may reflect a wider size distribution rather than inferior flesh; it may also hide an unresolved criterion. Request a representative trial for the differences that matter to your customer, instead of arguing about which letter sounds more premium.
Attach the agreed version to the order
Record how sampling and borderline results will be handled. Keep the version approved by both parties so later changes are visible. Send HAFAMEX the required Musang King product form and the attributes behind your preferred grade, and ask the final quotation to refer to that written definition.
