Passion Fruit Receiving: Plan Appointments and Intake Capacity
Plan passion fruit intake around receiving staff, inspection tasks and available space. Test the appointment sequence so fruit is not left waiting without a handling decision.
Passion fruit receiving appointments should reflect the work needed after the vehicle arrives. A free dock is not the same as available inspection staff, suitable space or readiness to transfer fruit to its next controlled stage. Map the receiving sequence before confirming delivery slots. That helps the buyer and carrier avoid an unmanaged wait caused by an otherwise predictable bottleneck.
List the tasks inside the appointment
Include check-in, identity and document checks, unloading, the agreed inspection or sampling tasks, recording decisions and transfer to the appropriate area. Assign the responsible person for each step. Some tasks can proceed together, while others depend on a previous check being completed.
Separate normal intake from the path used for a discrepancy. If labels do not match the order or fruit needs additional review, staff should know where to hold identified goods and whom to contact. Do not let the exception occupy the normal receiving space without a plan.
Estimate capacity from observed work
In an illustrative sixty-minute slot, fifteen minutes may be allocated to setup and administration, leaving forty-five minutes. If a particular agreed carton-check task takes three minutes per carton in a trial, that task can cover fifteen cartons in the remaining time. This is not a requirement to inspect every carton or a recommended sampling plan.
The calculation describes one task under stated conditions. Actual intake may also be limited by unloading equipment, weighing, staff availability or storage space. Identify the limiting step instead of treating the fifteen-carton figure as the capacity of the entire facility.
Confirm readiness before the vehicle arrives
- Order, lot and expected quantity information available to the receiving team.
- Required staff, tools and record forms ready.
- Suitable destination space and a clear transfer route.
- Agreed contact for delays, early arrival or changed quantity.
- A defined action if the delivery cannot be received as planned.
Keep arrival estimates and confirmed appointments distinct. For an imported shipment, terminal release does not automatically mean the truck will reach the customer at the original time. Share changes promptly through the agreed operational channel rather than assuming another team has already been informed.
Use the first deliveries to refine the plan
Record actual arrival, start of unloading, completion of checks and transfer time. Note why any wait occurred and whether it affected the planned handling conditions. Compare these observations with the appointment assumptions instead of blaming the last person in the sequence.
Adjust slot length, staffing or delivery quantity where the evidence supports it. Keep food-safety and quality decisions with the responsible personnel; scheduling efficiency must not remove necessary checks. A repeatable intake plan gives the supplier a clear receiving requirement while avoiding a promise that every delivery will follow an identical timetable.
