Seedless Lime Wax and Treatment Declarations: What to Request
Request lot-linked coating and postharvest treatment information before choosing seedless limes for peel-on applications.
A shiny seedless lime does not reveal which coating or postharvest treatment, if any, was used. Buyers planning peel-on garnishes or recipes involving rind need written product information. Appearance and informal assurances should not replace a declaration connected to the actual lot.
Describe the intended use clearly
Tell the supplier whether fruit will be sold whole, squeezed, served with peel or used for zest. Explain the destination and the customer’s documentation requirements. A declaration prepared for one customer programme may not answer another programme’s questions, especially when the application changes.
Ask for identifiable records
Request the treatment or coating name, its stated purpose, the responsible operator and the batch or application record relevant to the lot. Ask for the supporting product information needed by the buyer’s quality team. If the supplier declares no treatment or no coating, ask what that statement covers and which handling stages it includes.
Separate declaration from compliance review
A document naming a substance is not by itself proof that a shipment meets every destination condition. Have the importer or qualified quality team verify the applicable requirements for the exact product and market. Do not translate “food-grade” into an unlimited permission for every use. Where testing is required, agree the scope, laboratory and connection between the sample and shipment.
Preserve the approved version
Keep the declaration with the lot specification and make changes visible before dispatch. A substitute coating, packing site or product form may require another review.
