Control the viewing conditions

Control the preparation as well

Do not translate a visual score into a laboratory result. If a sample lies near the acceptance boundary, repeat the assessment under the same conditions and record the second result without deleting the first.
Maintain the reference over time
Store labelled reference photographs with their dates and lot context, and replace them through an agreed review rather than quietly changing the target. Colour is one purchasing attribute, not proof of cultivar identity or overall quality.
