Seedless Limes Turning Yellow: Record More Than Colour
Assess lime colour alongside firmness, defects and the receiving history before accepting or rejecting a wholesale lot.
Yellowing in a seedless lime delivery can create a commercial problem when the customer expects a green display. It should still be evaluated as a specific observation rather than used alone to declare the fruit rotten or to diagnose the transport history.
Agree the colour target before purchase
Describe the acceptable colour range and how it will be judged. A visual reference should show the whole fruit under consistent lighting. Specify whether colour is a strict retail requirement or a preference for a juice programme. Do not assume every buyer in every market wants the same shade.
Inspect the rest of the fruit
Record firmness, skin condition, visible decay and the result of the agreed internal or juice check. Count colour categories across the sample. A shipment with a small mixed-colour component raises a different grading question from one that broadly misses the target. Keep the denominator of inspected fruit in the report.
Review the handling evidence
Ask for harvest or packing references and relevant storage and transport records. UC Davis notes that ethylene exposure can contribute to loss of green colour in limes, but a yellow fruit photograph does not establish whether that occurred in a particular shipment. Avoid assigning cause until the evidence has been reviewed by the responsible quality team.
Make the commercial decision explicit
If sound fruit is outside the agreed display colour, discuss the permitted handling under the contract rather than silently mixing it into the premium grade. Record any approved alternative outlet separately. Tell HAFAMEX whether green appearance is essential, how the colour check will be made and how quickly the customer expects to use the fruit; confirm the specific lot before final approval.
