White Dragon Fruit Size Mix: Plan for Retail Sell-Through
Match white dragon fruit size bands to actual retail sales instead of ordering one average size for every store.
Buying only the largest white dragon fruit can tie up shelf space and working capital if customers prefer a lower price per piece. A size plan should start with how the retailer sells fruit: by piece, by weight, in a multipack or as prepared portions.
Read demand in the unit the customer sees
For each outlet, review sales and unsold stock by size band over a comparable trading period. Note promotions, display capacity and price changes so that a one-off event is not mistaken for normal demand. Keep the buying unit and selling unit visible. A kilogram-based supplier quote must still support the retailer’s expected number of pieces.
Turn a forecast into an order split
Use a trial split across agreed weight bands rather than requesting an undefined mix. As an illustration, an outlet expecting to sell sixty smaller pieces and forty larger pieces needs that piece distribution converted into estimated kilograms using sampled average weights. Those estimates should then be reconciled with carton counts. Do not convert demand using the midpoint of a broad band without checking the actual pack.
Measure sell-through and markdown together
A size that sells quickly only after heavy discounting may not be the strongest choice. Track units sold at the intended price, units marked down, remaining pieces and disposal separately. Compare the results for the same display period. Record any quality differences between bands because poor condition can distort what looks like a size preference.
Refine the next delivery
Use the trial to change the proportion of sizes, not automatically the entire specification. Ask the supplier how mixed sizes will be separated and identified so store staff can receive them accurately.
